Camera Confusion

Soooooo I have a contax T3 camera, it is probably the best thing I have ever bought. I bought it nearly 10 years ago, they were all the rage in early 2000's and now have come around full circle. It got an amazing write up in dazed and confused and then when I saw Nick Valensi (from the strokes, my obsession then) had one I was sold! However, its sister camera the T2 is now the one to have, I want it so badly, but am I just mad?? Very similar but the T2 but has an even more retro/creamy look. I am trying to justify this to myself, its my birthday soon, the T3 has given me 10 years of joy, Alexa has one! I think it just might have to be done, also really want a yashica T4, but thats a whole new post!

The fashion in tokyo was obviously amazing, but I have to say I was shocked at how they really jump on a trend. Like everyone and every shop has the same things, the main ones when I was there were breton stripes, boaters, denim, cutsie boho floral dresses, mickey mouse logos....and literally all the fashionable were wearing this stuff. Have never seen so many boater hats in my life! There are also the Harajuku girls but even there outfits are very uniform. It was unbelievable for shopping and people watching though!

So I am back from my adventures and it actually feels ok so far. I couldn't have asked for a better time, had an absolute ball! I will start at the beginning: Kuala Lumpur Topshop, this was the first time I had seen a topshop in a year and a half, Pretty. Big. Deal! And even though I left empty handed (which I made up for in London, but I'll get to that later) it did not disappoint one bit, I think it is my favourite shop in the whole wide world, if it was designer I would save all my pennies to own its goods. The cut, the fabrics, the way it follows the trends whilst also doing its own thang, topshop is just so dreamy!

The other shopping in KL pretty much blew my mind, shopping centre after shopping centre of designer, high street and market style amazing-ness. Couldn't believe how Americanised the place was, coffee bean, starbucks and forever 21, I was in heaven. Definitely want to return. I also did some sight seeing (just)...

And saw Steve Aoki which was pretty rad!

So this is it, I have left Melbourne. It was an amazing city that I never expected to love so much. I am gonna miss all the amazing people I met, the laid back aussie attitude, sushi rolls, op shops, solo lemon, there always being new stuff to do, sportsgirl, the summer...I could go on and on. But my adventures begin, might not get to blog so much but will put up photos at some stage.

I have worn my Doc Martens twice, not painful at the time but after realised a massive blister forming, it brought back painful memories from my teenage years of wearing them and the same thing happening. Although this time, it has become badly infected. I have ended up having to go to the hospital, getting it injected and prodded at, more painful than any tattoo ever! But I love my doc's so much, but am gonna need to lay off them for a while, dammit!

Ok so no need to say we all love the miu miu spring/summer collection, but I didn't realise until reading tavi's blog that you could just buy one of the print collars, although $190 does seem a bit pricey for a 10th of a shirt, BUT they are amazing! Was sad today to hear Macolm McLaren has died of cancer at 64; he was quite the pioneer of a lot of things and somewhat of a punk rock mogul. Although he is most famous for managing the Sex Pistols he also had his own music career which included this classic Buffalo Gals (1983) which really brought hip hop to the
forefront in the UK. He was married to Vivienne Westwood and together they opened the very famous SEX store on the Kings Road, London, selling her punk style clothes. They had a son together who is now co-owner of Agent Provocateur.
Although he was known as an eccentric man there is no doubt he was a revolutionary of his scene; respect!

Modern Capsule Wardrobe

Lately I have been thinking a lot about clothes that just seem to stick around and have become somewhat part of a modern day capsule wardrobe. I see my wardrobe as something to build on and realise some purchases have enhanced my already existing items greatly. There are also some disposable quick fix items but mostly I like to have things I feel I can wear forevs. So I hit up polyvore and put together some items which I think make good wardrobe staples.

Blazer: this can come in many different forms, boyfriend, fitted, sequin, tweed, navy/military.

Black vest and white vest.

Plaid shirt, never ending greatness really.

Leather jacket in any of its forms.

Leggings: wet look, leather, floral, just beware of those Lindsey Lohan catastrophes!

Trench; a classic.

Cardigan; always handy for throwing over anything, belted being the cardi de jour.

Breton striped top = duh!

High waisted skirt.

The floral dress is the new little black dress in my eyes.

Denim shorts.

Great pair of heels; I'd vote black.

Converse; I don't even own a pair of these right now but really should.

Flats, flats, flats.

Also jeans, but thats just a given!

Finally here is the topshop clog (what took them so long?). Hmmm, it doesn't have the clunky-ness I would have dreamed of, but I guess more practical. Also not crazy about the buckle/strap. It must be viewed in real life asap! I am also concerned as everyone is reporting clogs are hard to wear due to lack of ankle support. I find it hard to walk in heels at the best of times, so this does concern me slightly. But they're just so great!

My mum bought me the book What Would Audrey Do for christmas and I finally just got around to reading it. I have to say although I have always thought of her as beautiful, that is pretty much where my interest ends. She's pretty amazing; she has lived a crazy life and suffered through a world war. She just seems to come across as an all round very grounded woman who takes life and its hardships for what they are. As for her style she was absolutely a trendsetter and way before her time. The book openly slags off Paris Hilton as an example of everything Audrey wasn't, which made me laugh because I think Paris likes to think of herself as quite sophisticated these days...idiot! Although I think you would have to live in some fantasy-lala land to live today the way Audrey did, I am sure we can all learn a little from her ladylike ways.

Melbourne Fashion Week

So I only made it to a little of Melbourne fashion week due to manic work schedule to save for my upcoming travels. I did though get to see a blog forum in the guildford lane gallery, with some of Melbournes biggest bloggers: patsy fox, lady melbourne, love bento and melbourne street fashion. It was really informative and entertaining.

I also made it down to fed square today for the target rocks fashion show and to do some serious Whitney Port stalking! The show was a bit tacky but it is target after all so not too much was expected really...

There was also a Grazia mag for target showcase thing, they actually did a good job, some of the target clothes weren't even half bad.
I also decided to take some photos of some well dressed girlies that attended. It was a sea of floral dresses, high waisted jean shorts, satchels, studded shoes, gladiator sandels and pixie boots, very melbourne!

I know I am 2 years too late and audibly scoffed at this trend before but people can change, right? After seeing a few hotties wearing these with pretty dresses I was never quite the same again, I couldn't shake my interest. I tried to fight it, for some time until yesterday morning I left my house and on my doorstep there were a pair a perfectly worn in Dr.Martens, I thought it was a gift from god then realised they belonged to my housemates lady friend. I have to admit, I considered taking them and even checked for the size, like who leaves there shoes outside overnight anyways? After seeing sense I decided this was a sign enough for me. I have such regrets about throwing out old pairs now, I had 3 pairs, black, ox blood and even mary janes, plus fake taller ones that were amazing! I really don't want to pay extortionate prices when I know this love is a flash in the pan, so the hunt begins!

Continuing on with my vintage Courtney Love admiration, I am lusting after this lacy nightie/dress and cropped top from topshop. Though I am worried these are items that I never find anything to wear underneath; nightie is probably see through and I am not baring my midriff that's for sure! I can't say I love the Chanel collection; it was one I was really looking forward to, yet it hasn't quite hit the spot. Can't see fur trousers being a huge hit and oh my god if 90's style furry boots make a comeback I'm outta here! Naturally there are some pretty dresses and accessories, but it all just seems a bit ridiculous to me for a ready to wear show. It's also so apparent how this years freezing Winter has inspired the shows, seeing designs aimed towards Baltic weather. I'm all for it personally, but no full fur bodysuits for me!

Today I read this blog post and it got me thinking about my transition from grunge to glamour (sorry). Courtney Love was my first fashion icon as a teenager; I became obsessed, dyed my hair platinum, wore barettes and acted like a bitch! This lasted for about 4 to 5 years to the dismay of my mother until I finally grew up and moved on to my next obsession: fashion. Even though I moved on I was always in major awe of all things Courtney: babydoll dresses, maryjanes, white tights, lace and most of all peter pan collars. Its such a shame she is such a nut job now, but to be honest, I felt more betrayed by her when she went through her hollywood starlet stage. You cannot deny her early 90's wardrobe is a bit amazing!

Some of you may heard about the giant hailstorm in melbourne already, it was intense; smashed my windows and flooded my work along with the rest of melbourne. So the first one is pretty self explanatory, cute cape, MJ umbrella, Hunter (have gone too far) boots. Second outfit is just a bit ridic, all the leftover rain garments, like this jacket, rain hood (my mum actually got me one for Christmas, right on!) and these adidas snow booties, ewww. And last but not least this preptastic rain look, super cute coat and bag, obligatory Dr. Marten boots. Not that any of this would have saved you from Saturdays storm but at least you could go and splash in the puddles after.

Wait for it, it gets worse/better; her mum who is known as 'the UK's Human Barbie' injects her daughter with the stuff, WTF?? The youngling stated her reasons as: "I also wanted to be beautiful like my mum and I was concerned about some wrinkles developing", and "Appearance is important to me and I don't want to look haggard and ugly by the time I'm 25." Alexander McQueen's funeral took place a few days ago on the 25th Feb with only 100 close guests invited, including Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. OMFG! I have to admit I am feeling a bit bored of blog show entries; any of us who love fashion are looking at the shows and seeing the same things, with different opinions of course, but for me my own opinion is enough. STILL I cannot help but praise and comment on burberry prorsum (I am sure there will be more but I am trying to hold myself back). Like we need anymore proof pilot jackets are gonna be the SHIT burberry goes and slams down the best version yet. I have already been looking on ebay for vintage pilot jackets but gosh darnit they are pretty pricey, so unless I find one in an second hand store I will probably just hold out for the topshop version.

And the fur and those boots, they are also doing even better short versions of these sheepskin delights. Can you imagine heels with sheepskin lining, I can't. Comfier but sweatier perhaps, anyways they look way cool!

Homage To Chanel

I am pretty stoked about this t shirt I just made, I was looking for a vintage Chanel tshirt when I came across someone who had made this super cute DIY version. I bought an oversized t shirt, blew up an image, put it under the t shirt on cardboard and traced over with pencil, then coloured it in with a textile sharpie. I left a small part left uncoloured, adds to the homemade effect and added my personalised tag. Perhaps I will try this recession 2.55 bag to complete the look ;)
P.S. I watched the Coco Chanel movie last night (a bit late I know), was so great. Gave me shivers to think how her style is still so relevant today, almost 100 years on, breton striped tops for example, wowsers!

Obsession Of The Week: Fashion Month

Although the fall 2010 fashion weeks are no where near finished, I am already loving some of the micro trends appearing, especially because in australia we are about to come into our winter. Some of these have been touched on already but they are going to be all the rage come autumn. I am mainly concentrating on the easy to reach ones that can instantly bring new life to my outfits. Firstly we have fur and sheepskin collars on jackets and coats. Pilot style jackets feature heavily (Alexa wore one months ago, of course!) also lots of duffel coats which makes me really happy, so cute and practical. Denim jackets with sheepskin collars, I am pretty sure I had one when i was 13, they are all things that can be found in second hand shops and ebay, or even just buy a fur collar to attach to your leather jacket, whammy! Then we have another grunge fav, sweater dressing. Just grab any old man sweater and throw it over a fancy dress or even just with tights or leggings, simple. I really love the marc jacobs version (top image) very mary kate with the long dress. Us Irish can keep it real with our Aran sweaters too, I have been waiting my whole life for this!? Middle pic 3.1 Phillip Lim and bottom Proenza Scholuer (one of my top favourite shows so far).
In other trends, you cannot ignore socks and knitted tights everywhere, either slouchy like in marc jacobs or thigh high as seen in the unique collection, knee high seen at karen walker and everywhere in between. Love it. Black is back bitches, big time, the goth look ain't dead yet but its defo in a softer way. Loadsa suits, everyone loves a blazer. Tartan also peppered most shows, more highland fling than lumberjack, is it just me or are there more and more never ending trends? Don't get me wrong I am not complaining. All in all everything so far is looking very promising :)

So I am not really surprised by these bags she has designed for Longchamp. Zebra print, ewww! Tacky red leather and hardwear that is so bland. She is supposed to be rock and roll, partying hard Kate not straight laced mother collecting the kids from school with her new 5 quid Primark find. Wow, Jeffrey Campbell seems to consistently produce some of the most affordable high fashion footwear I have seen in a while. I am kinda of dying for some new heels and right now it seems to be the bigger and chunkier the better. Such items enivitably lie at the bottom of my wardrobe (rail) and only get worn twice a year, my birthday and christmas, maybe a wedding if i'm lucky enough that someone is getting married. Although everytime I like to fool myself into thinking I will just prance down to the pub for a couple of pints in my oh so comfy new heels, never. going. to. happen.

Ah he's just great isn't he? Marc by Marc Jacobs Fall 2010 collection is yet another hit. Full of the never ending military and nautical trends which never grow old. Head to toe the looks are flawless, and there is always the signature MJ grunge and preppy undertones. Just delicious. BTW if that boy walked into a room I may faint.

And of course the piece de resistance, the mother ship, Marc Jacobs collection. First out was a sea of grey office wear, sounds boring but he manages to make it his own, cute and prep-tastic. Stunning sheer dresses, fur trimmed coats and of course slouchy socks teamed with heels (going to be HUGE). Its all very simple and classic, in my eyes he can do no wrong.

Another addictive blog favourite of mine, Yvan Rodic aka The Face Hunter. The face hunter is solely street fashion but I prefer his other blog which concentrates more on general photography as well as street style. It's basically a spill over site, with much more depth and gives you a better impression of a whole city rather than just the fashion in it. He has made a living from his blog and now gets to travel the world taking photographs of disgustingly good looking, supremely well dressed beauties. It fully satisfies my people watching needs. I just cannot contain my excitment for Alexa's Madewell Designs. It was false hope though when I saw the lookbook then read they are not available until SEPTEMBER! WTF? Why would they do that to us, no fair! I feel very posessive over this and didn't even really want to put it on my blog incase it lessens my chances of obtaining these preppy gems, but you'll have forgotten by then (i hope). The cute dresses, the long cardigans, the velvet and oh my, the peter pan collars. I cannot get enough of those peter pan collars and quite frankly there are not enough in the world to go around, the whole thing just makes me want to squeal!

The Fafi and adidas collaboration surprised me, didn't think it would be my thing. I am really into this leather jacket, especially the 3 stripe and gold buttons. Also lusting after a sleeveless rocker style leather waistcoat ala Gaspard, harder to pull off as a girl i think but maybe with pretty floral dresses it could work. Being away with my mother and listening to her debate whether its time to give up the dye and go with the grey and Chanel's haute couture show with its grey streaks has led me here. I too am considering this move but in a synthetic way of course (i'm not that old, duh!). When I started bleaching my hair at 15 (to look more like Courtney Love, argh!) sometimes they would use a silver/blue toner to make it more white and this meant a couple weeks with silver/grey hair before it washed out. I always quite liked it until a few years on a boy from my college admitted when he first saw me he thought I was hit by a car and my hair had actually turned grey, and although car crash chic was kinda in that year it wasn't what I was going for. I guess this is something perhaps better left to the young ones such as Tavi , otherwise you run the risk of doing a Kate Moss. Although I have some life and youth in me yet so might give it a whirl for old times sake.

I think this footwear is even more controversial than the Chanel clogs (if that's possible!?) So I'm in New Zealand (no biggie) and somehow am yet again getting drawn back in to one of my previous not so cool addictions; Uggs. New Zealand has shit loads of sheep if you didn't already know, therefore shit loads of sheepskin, therefore shit loads of shiny new uggs. Your judgement always gets clouded on hols but suddenly they look unbelievable appealing again, or is that just compared to All Blacks shirts and Maori jewellery? Either way I want. They aren't even real ones but they are sheepskin and they are much cheaper. In the end of the day they are just glorified slippers that I occasionally leave on when hungover, going to the corner shops or getting on a plane. Rationalizing yes! Although there will be no use in Australia at the peak of summer not to mention that the only other wearers of such footwear there are granny's and men. But as a holiday souvenir I can think of worse!

Not really sure where this came from, I guess a combo of his song being a highlight in the sea of bland that is the gym radio plus other rappers saying he leads the most rockstar life of any they know, instant interest for me. So I watched his documentary 'The Carter', he is kind of insane really, living on a diet of codeine cough syrup (a fav of Kurt Cobains, I used to drink it as a teenager and think I was really hard) and soda 'purple drank'. When Diplo played A Milli in his live set it sealed the deal for me, Lil Wayne rocks even if he does look like a cretin!

I have been delving extensively into the world of blogs the past few months, even more so since starting mine. I have rarely seen many bad/boring ones, especially of the fashion variety. New Years Day, a hangover of such monstrosity that can only be related to this day (the 'what the fuck am I doing with my life' kind) anyway I somehow stumbled upon whatclaudiawore.blogspot.com. Straight off the bat it looked boring/too much writing, until I scrolled down and saw a girl wearing an amazing pair of frye shoes (pictured above) it hooked me in to reading, I laughed a little, then kept reading, this turned into 4 hours of laughing and quoting out loud (much to the annoyance of others).
She refers to this as a fashion blog but its so so much more, she basically studies with such detail and wit the fashion sense of the babysitters club books, book by book. It is hands down one of the funniest things I have read in I don't know how long, full of bitchy and dry commentary that took away the worst hangover fear ever and transported me to a world of lol-ing; I hate that term but it had to be done, it is twenty ten now afterall ;)

It all started in China when I saw people wearing cute hats with ears, I bought a panda hat that I thought you could only get away with in Asia. When I returned to the western world it was becoming quite the trend, firstly with Louis Vuitton bunny ears and lately mickey mouse, notably the Jeremy Scott helmet. Such a cute trend but not sure I could handle the stares and drunken jokes, mickey mouse ring is a safe alternative from pixiemarket.com.

This week I watched Justice's documentary A Cross the Universe for the first time, I have since watched it 3 times! It is absolutely fascinating, it seems to evoke all sorts of feelings within me, part of me wants to join in the madness part of me wants to put them to bed with a nice cup of tea and tell them everything is going to be ok. Its rock and roll but ever so depressing at the same time.

My Obsession has mainly gathered around Gaspard (on the right) his style and crazyness really draw me in and even make me want to be him and i'm a girl!? He just seems so unbelievably cool, maybe life would be better if we were all a little more like Gaspard!

Why is it so hard to find the perfect striped shirt, I have literally tried on 20 in the past few weeks, they are everywhere yet its so hard to find the ultimate style. Collar, sleeves, width and colour of stripes, to get all these ingredients in one may be impossible, but I won't give up.
